My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐
Sadly I have to put this book down after a hundred or so pages. While it lasted, it was a well-written book with a brilliant style and amazing metaphors. But it lacked direction; lacked urgency. It is difficult to tell whether the lack of these things was the exact point of this book. Or whether this kind of prose was what the Man Booker judges wanted in 1997. But after 90 pages of hoping in silence that Arundhati would at least get to the point of her 400 paged book, I feel that I am at my limits. I have to walk away.
They say it took four years for Arundhati to complete the manuscript of this book; but i am afraid that at this rate, it will take me more years to finish reading it. Which is why I am abandoning it for now. But I promise, I promise I will be back.
Stay safe Ammu. Best wishes Estha and Rahel. Till we meet again.
