Title: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium #1) Author: Larsson, Stieg Publisher: MacLehose Press Pages: 538 Date Read: 07 December 2018 Bookshelves: read My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book is proof that one can craft a masterpiece without the use of flowery language. And i hate that i loved this book a lot because the first few pages was written in straightforward prose. I do not like straightforward prose. ...
Title: Carnaval Author: Jaji, Tsitsi Publisher: nan Pages: N/A Date Read: 13 November 2018 Bookshelves: read My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐ I might be wrong but there is something in Jiji’s words that makes her works feel foreign. Too foreign in fact. Probably explains why i did not relate to her poems as much as i wanted to.
Title: Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future Author: Thiel, Peter Publisher: Crown Currency Pages: 195 Date Read: 10 October 2018 Bookshelves: read My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book does what it says and says what it does. Very well written and thoroughly researched. A straightforward read. A good read.
Title: The God of Small Things Author: Roy, Arundhati Publisher: Random House Pages: 321 Date Read: 27 September 2018 Bookshelves: read, abandoned My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐ Sadly I have to put this book down after a hundred or so pages. While it lasted, it was a well-written book with a brilliant style and amazing metaphors. But it lacked direction; lacked urgency. It is difficult to tell whether the lack of these things was the exact point of this book. Or whether this kind of prose was what the Man Booker judges wanted in 1997. But after 90 pages of hoping in silence that Arundhati would at least get to the point of her 400 paged book, I feel that I am at my limits. I have to walk away. ...
Title: The Communist Manifesto Author: Marx, Karl Publisher: Penguin Books Pages: 288 Date Read: 05 September 2018 Bookshelves: read My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐ At least this book helped me commit to memory the spelling of Bourgeoisie and Proletariat.
Title: The Picture of Dorian Gray Author: Wilde, Oscar Publisher: Random House: Modern Library Pages: 272 Date Read: 01 September 2018 Bookshelves: read, favorites My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Before I regard this book merely as a work of fiction, this book was first a lecture in human psychology, a 350 paged ride in classical philosophy and a bible to hedonists and sybarites. I hear that this book was not well-received at the time of its release but Oscar sensibly put it best by saying that “The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.” ...
Title: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry Author: Tyson, Neil deGrasse Publisher: W. W. Norton & Company Pages: 223 Date Read: 23 August 2018 Bookshelves: read My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A very well-written book. A good one for anybody seeking to have a general idea of the very things that lie beyond our stratosphere.
Title: The Richest Man in Babylon Author: Clason, George S. Publisher: Berkley Books Pages: 194 Date Read: 21 August 2018 Bookshelves: read, favorites My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved that the author wrote this book with the classical style in which he did. Because this was a book that should not be rushed, that absolutely must not be rushed. And words like “shouldst” and “investeth” did make sure that I stayed true to this cardinal objective. ...
Title: The Analects Author: Confucius, Confucius Publisher: Penguin Books Ltd Pages: 249 Date Read: 31 July 2018 Bookshelves: read My Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book for me was more relatable then Confucius’s Doctrine of the Mean. I am impressed that this text still offers wisdom that can be applied today despite written before the birth of Christ.
